What were you doing before you started your apprenticeship?
I was working at the local shop in my village and I was also on the relief list for a short time where I got various shifts.
What made you want to do your apprenticeship?
I had an interest in childcare since I was in secondary school as I completed a foundation apprenticeship in children and young people and I would go visit a nursery 3 times a week to gain experience.
How have you found your apprenticeship so far?
At the beginning, I found my apprenticeship a wee bit challenging but I feel I have adjusted well to the setting and I really enjoy what I do.
What tasks do you complete on an average day?
On average day, I will meet parents at the gate, sanitise lunchboxes and water-bottles, prepare snack and do activities with children based on what the nursery focus is that week.
What do you hope to do when you finish your apprenticeship?
Once I have finished my apprenticeship and gained my qualification I hope to get a job as a nursery worker.
What would you say to someone interested in the same apprenticeship?
I would say that this is a great opportunity where you can learn, develop new skills and gain a qualification. It is also a good way to earn money and confidence within the workplace.
